The History of the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS)

IMTS was first held in Cleveland, Ohio in 1927. Originally, the trade show was called International Machine Tool Show and mainly featured industrial machinery and technology.

In 1990, the trade show was renamed International Manufacturing Technology Show to incorporate growing technologies of the time which included welding, lubrication, and materials
engineering. IMTS has since become the largest manufacturing technology trade show in North America.

IMTS Today

IMTS is held in even-numbered years in Chicago at McCormick Place, which contains 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. Managed by The Association for Manufacturing Technology, the show draws attendees from the United States and more than 117 other countries. In 2016, IMTS hosted 2,407 companies and received 115,612 registrations in total.
